Emerging artist Sweet Imperfections (aka Bri Schillings) is set to release her debut album, ME is Better with WE, on May 21st, but you can get an exclusive preview via Aesthetic Magazine below.
Even though Schillings had an emerging presence in the San Diego music scene with consistent gigs and a full fledged EP out in the world, there was something in her heart that was breaking. She felt alone, unseen, and unloved in her relationships and life. This struggle led her to fall back to a dark place and a life threatening eating disorder.
The only place she could turn to at the time was music. So after pouring her heart into creating songs of nature, empowerment, and hope, and meeting the love of her life, Schillings resurrected from that catatonic state and worked to bring light back into such a dark place.
The result of that is the ME is Better with WE, a work filled to the brim with lush violins and poignant piano work. These set the backdrop for Schillings’ earnest yet powerful vocals calling out for unity and compassion.
Deeper To The Core is a journey to open one to their ever-folding truths... that a deeper connection with ourselves is a doorway to a deeper connection with others. It takes us through an exploration of ourselves and the love that supports... as this deeper connectivity to one's own truth unfolds... so does the love that allows us to expand beyond our old stories and limitations.
We wrote this song during the “Black Lives Matter” movement over the summer with a desire to help this Country feel loved again and hopefully heal the deep divide between our people. Gently not Judgingly is calling out to us to; “Take a walk in my shoes and you will see, you’re not that much different from me”. We wanted to inspire people to understand and sympathize with our differences instead of condemning and judging people. Find a new way to make waves of real change”.
There are times when life feels like a struggle and hasn’t that been the case for these last twelve months? Politically and socially speaking, it feels like someone has taken a knife and divided our world into two warring segments, in deep conflict over virtually every issue and belief you could possibly think of. Singer-songwriter Bri Schillings and her band Sweet Imperfections have recognized this fundamental clash of attitudes in their latest single “Gently Not Judgingly,” an epically emotional ballad that can’t help but move you.
Even if you aren’t on board with Schilling’s point of view, there’s no mistaking the gripping, passionate elements of the song that can’t help but reel you in as a listener. It’s a song that comes at a key time, when our differences have never been emphasized more and in many instances, these differences are being weaponized to harm us. The band is out to inspire sympathy and understanding, and lobby for a little more unity that can help carry us through these hard times we live in.
